The American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommend that all children be seen for a dental exam by age one.

Early childhood caries is transmissible, preventable, and considered the most prevalent chronic infectious disease in children.

An early visit to a pediatric dentist enables the parents to become more informed about their child's teeth.  Topics such as the importance of baby teeth, prevention, fluoride, tooth eruption, jaw development, diet, and proper brushing technique will be discussed at this visit.

On your child's first visit to our office, we will clean their teeth, give them a fluoride treatment, do an examination, and take the required x-rays to determine if there are cavities between the teeth.

Our goal, with your help, is to make your child's first visit to the dentist as enjoyable and positive as possible.

You are welcome to accompany your child back into the treatment area on his initial visit to our office.

At subsequent visits, we ask that you allow your child to accompany our staff through the dental experience.  We are highly experienced in helping children overcome anxiety.  Separation anxiety is not uncommon in children, so please try not to be concerned if your child exhibits some negative behavior.  This is normal and will soon diminish.  Studies and experience have shown that most children over the age of 3 react more positively when permitted to experience the dental visit on their own and in an environment designed for children.

It is best if your refrain from using words around your child that might cause unnecessary fear, such as "needle", "shot", "pull", "drill", or "hurt."  This is normal and will soon diminish.  The office makes a practice of using words that convey the same message, but are pleasant and non-frightening to the child.

If it is determined that your child needs treatment, we will schedule a subsequent appointment.  We do not attempt to accomplish treatment on the first visit as we want your child to have an opportunity to get to know us first.  This approach gives us an opportunity to gain your child's confidence and to evaluate your child so we have an idea how they will respond to future treatment.

If your child is apprehensive, we may recommend a relaxant such as nitrous oxide to relieve anxiety and make treatment more tolerable for your child.

We strive to make each and every visit to our office a fun one!
